Overview

Under the supervision of the Early Education Director, the Assistant Teacher supports and assists the Lead Teacher in providing direction for the classroom. The assistant teacher implements the program curriculum in the classroom. The assistant teacher provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Responsibilities

  • Complete 16 in-service training hours per year as required by state regulations
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of the daily programs
  • Assist in establishing a curriculum within the established guidelines
  • Assist in designing and implementing age-appropriate daily lesson/activity plans
  • Assist in supervising the children, classroom, and all activities
  • Assist with parent conferences and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents
  • Assist in behavior management in accordance with YMCA and state regulations
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, clean learning environment daily
  • Attend any staff meetings and training required by the YMCA
  • Greet all participants and consistently demonstrate professional conduct
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 and have a valid driver’s license
  • 6 months previous experience working with children preferred
  • Must stay within and meet the Kansas Department of Health and Environment licensing regulations
  • Ability to develop activities that are fun and educational for young children
  • Ability to instruct young children in rules of conduct and to learn new tasks
  • Ability to select the appropriate teaching method and adapt to children’s learning styles
  • Ability to build good relationship/communication skills with adults and children
  • Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
  • Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid, TB test within 30 days of hire
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and judgment skills

Posted Salary Range

USD $14.00 - USD $16.00 /Hr.
